Safety Manager
The
Organization

Oilsands Corporation, a company established to be a producer and
extractor of oils sands bitumen. NAOSC began in 2001 with the
mandate to use SAGD technology to extract up to 200,000 mb/d and
then refine it at their own upgrading facility to be constructed
in the Fort Saskatchewan area. StatoilHydro’s purchase of

Team
Dynamics
The successful candidate will report to the Director, Regulatory
Affairs, Environment and Safety - Projects. This position is based
in Calgary with some travel to Fort McMurray and you will be part
of a small ground floor team that will interface between the Calgary
and Stavanger, Norway head offices. Your expertise will help establish
safety programs throughout the company. They are a dynamic, progressive
and high growth team that offers exciting technical challenges

Activities
and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the overall management and compliance
of the Corporate Safety Program in support of StatoilHydro’s
global operations. The successful candidate will ensure the development
and integration of day-to-day health and safety policies, practices
and procedures into the asset teams. You will support and continue
to develop the safety management systems and field safety program
while conducting safety meetings and providing coaching and training.
This role will facilitate internal health & safety performance
audits of capital programs and assist field operations in meeting
their company health and safety goals. Providing direct and indirect
support to projects, you will assist in the investigation of safety
incidents using Root Cause Analysis techniques and coordinate
the Emergency Response Plan. You will be the main contact for
corporate and site specific emergency response call downs. Other
duties involve reviewing key vendor safety programs and safety
performance while conducting vendor audits and documentation.
Overall, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of
StatoilHydro’s global health, safety and environmental programs.
As the company grows, you will provide technical assistance to
HSE coordinators concerning projects and specific issues.
Skills
and Experience
This position requires post secondary education and a minimum
of 5-10 years related oil and gas experience. Ideally, you are
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) within the oil
sands industry and have well rounded operations, regulatory and
HSE skills. You are knowledgeable in implementing health and safety
management systems and have experience in leading and conducting
health and safety compliance audits/inspections. Additionally,
you have a solid understanding of industry recommended practices
and risk management principles and you apply these accordingly
to various situations. This is a fast-paced work environment and
it is expected that you work independently with very little supervision
and have the ability to manage a large portfolio of projects requiring
excellent organizational and planning skills to set and exceed
established goals, schedules and deadlines. You have high integrity,
a strong work ethic and outstanding written and oral communication
skills. The successful candidate should have a valid driver’s
license and current First Aid, TDG, WHMIS, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance
and other current certifications. In-depth knowledge of AB OH&S
regulations and standards is essential.
Remuneration
StatoilHydro rewards more than fairly, based on a candidate’s
previous experience & level of competency. This includes a
Base Salary, Performance-Based Bonus, LTI’s and Benefits.
Relocation allowances will also be included.
