The Art Gallery of Ontario is seeking a regular full-time Occupational Health and Safety Officer. Under the general direction of the Manager, Staff & Volunteer Relations, the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) ensures due diligence throughout the AGO, interprets current legislation and updates policies to comply, provides advice to line management on regulatory compliance, and administers the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) ensuring safety at all levels within the organization. The incumbent acts as the management health and safety representative on Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and performs and assists with general human resources duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• community college program in Occupational Health & Safety and certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (C.R.S.P), or any combination of education and experience deemed to be equivalent.
• a number of years directly related work experience involving all aspects of health and safety issues.
• demonstrated working knowledge of relevant legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Fire Code and Safety Regulations, Ontario Human Rights Code and WSIB Act.
• experience in a unionized environment preferred.
• well-developed verbal, written, communication, analytical and presentation skills.
• judgement is required in analysing audits, workplace inspections, accident investigations, interpretation of policy and legislation, providing technical guidance, and implementing corrective measures.
• demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information.

The 2007 salary range for this position is: $56,141 - $70,175 per annum.
