TransLink - Safety Specialist (FTT - Approx. 6 months)

Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to develop and implement a Safety
Management System (SMS) in order to maximize safety for employees,
customers, public, operations and infrastructure. It will include
a safety policy to provide guidance for program planning, to limit
liability of the Board and staff by exercising due diligence.
The SMS will be the tool used to manage the on-going overall safety
program at TransLink (Metrotown).
•
Using the basic safety framework provided and industry best practices,
with input from various stakeholders, facilitate the design, development
and implementation of a Safety Management System (SMS) for TransLink
(Metrotown).
• Provide technical safety support, guidance and direction
to TransLink and COPE ensuring requirements of the SMS meets the
requirements of appropriate legislation.
• Manage a large technical project, establish priorities,
and develop an implementation plan.
• Recommend industry best practices.
• Facilitate integration of the SMS within TransLink (Metrotown),
providing technical safety support to TransLink and the Joint
Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
• Develop the SMS as part of an Integrated Risk Management
System integrating into the Security Management and Emergency
Management Systems.
• Develop a review and audit system (nonconformance, checking,
corrective actions, on-going program).
• Attend Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
Meetings as a technical advisor and facilitate initial meetings
providing guidance and assisting with input into plans, procedures
and practices.
• Identify financial, technological and human resources
required for maintaining the SMS on-going.
Qualifications
The Safety Specialist will possess a certified safety professional
designation e.g. Canadian Registered Safety Professional or Certified
Safety Professional, offered by BCIT or other recognized institution
and at least five to seven years of safety experience and proven
performance at a senior level.
- Experience
in customer/public safety area that relates to mass transit
application or equivalent.

Demonstrated safety project management experience relating to
large corporations like TransLink.
- Technical
Requirements: Knowledge of ISO/CSA standards, applicable safety
legislation; development of technical policies and procedures
