Examination Updates

The CRSP examination (CRSPEX) process is constantly under review as the board strives to ensure that the CRSP designation remains the foremost designation for ohs&e professionals. For Information relating to updates and changes to the examination, and the process, please refer to the section on Examination Updates

CRSP Candidate Handbook

The CRSP Candidate Handbook contains current information about the certification examination (CRSPEX) developed by the Certification and Examination Committee of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) as of January 1,
2006. For complete details please refer to the CRSPEX Candidate Handbook

Examination Pass Mark

The standard or pass mark is set in reference to the content and the difficulty of the examination questions. The standard is set by a panel of content experts (all Canadian Registered Safety Professionals) from across Canada who work closely with the Board’s examination consultants, Assessment Strategies Inc. to ensure that the examination meets the Examination Blueprint guidelines. For a detailed explanation please review the full CRSPEX Pass Mark text.

Sample CRSPEX Questions

A sample of the type and style of questions that may be included in the CRSPEX can be found at this link: Sample Questions.

Examination Dates & Start Times

The CRSPEX is held twice a year in May and October. The exam is held on the same day across Canada and is facilitated by representatives at Regional Screening Centres in all Provinces. Effective 2010, the CRSPEX start times will be staggered to ensure that all candidates start writing at the same time across Canada. Please click this link to review CRSPEX Local Writing Times. The application process that will determine your eligibility to write the CRSPEX revolves around specific deadlines that govern submission of applications. Examination Preparatory Courses

A number of organizations and private companies offer examination preparatory courses to assist candidates planning to write the Board’s certification examination (CRSPEX). Because candidates for the CRSPEX often ask where to take preparatory courses, this list is provided as a courtesy. It may not include all providers and is it not updated regularly.

Other than materials copyrighted and/or published by the BCRSP (e.g. Guide to Registration, Examination Blueprint) the BCRSP does not have any involvement in the development, content or distribution of any courses or materials associated with preparing for the CRSPEX. The BCRSP does not endorse any of the providers listed, nor does the BCRSP evaluate the providers or the providers’ material for consistency with the BCRSP’s Examination Blueprint, nor does the BCRSP benefit financially from any examination preparatory course.

Enrolment in an examination preparatory course is not a requirement for candidates submitting certification applications.

The Board cannot warrant that attendance at any preparatory course will result in certification. While the subject content has been chosen as representative of the knowledge required of an ohs&e generalist, the successful completion of the CRSPEX is dependent upon a combination of the applicant's academic background, ohs&e experience and individual preparation.

Please contact preparatory course providers directly for information on course schedules, fees or matters related to satisfaction with their services.
